National, Political Affairs: CPDM SG Encourages Prudence, Discernment

«The Secretary General of the Central Committee of the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM), Mr Jean Nkuete, hereby announces as follow: In the aftermath of the commemoration of our national unity, the brilliance of which was further enhanced across the country by the exceptional participation of the CPDM, the Secretary General of the Central Committee extends his salutations to all the fellow militants of the, supporters, as well as to the general public, while expressing his satisfaction with their overall conduct in the current national context, marked by legitimate and strong expectations. In addition, he conveys the warm congratulations of the President of the Republic and National President of the Party for their outstanding performance during the 20 May parade in Yaoundé, as well as in other localities across the country. In the same vein, he conveys the encouragements of the CPDM hierarchy, as well as his own, to Party comrades and to all our compatriots of good will, who are committed to peace and justice and, fully aware of the constraints, structural challenges, and stakes of our time, daily support and accompany, through their attitudes and actions, with loyalty, patience, and resilience, the President of the Republic, His Excellency Paul BIYA, in the implementation of his Great Hopes programme. Indeed, this programme, for which all Cameroonians overwhelmingly renewed their confidence in him last October, constitutes the guiding compass orienting us towards the attainment of our shared horizon of emergence. As is well known, National Day on 20 May was preceded, notably, by the historic and memorable pastoral visit of Pope Leo XIV to Cameroon, which was also marked by the radiant participation of the CPDM. In this respect, these two events share the common feature of having demonstrated, across the country, on the one hand, the deep attachment of the population to peace, unity, harmony, and peaceful coexistence; and, on the other hand, their unwavering faith in the institutions of the Republic. Furthermore, they reflect the population’s full confidence combined with deep respect towards President Paul BIYA, in recognition of his profound wisdom and steadfast commitment to his word. Viewed from another perspective, the visit of the Holy Father to Cameroon in the aftermath of the 12 October 2025 presidential election served, above all, to reaffirm the excellent relations between the Holy See and Cameroon, as well as between the Roman Catholic Church and President Paul BIYA. In this regard, it underscored the strength of bilateral ties, notwithstanding certain statements made by some senior officials of the National Episcopal Conference before and during the electoral campaign, which had suggested otherwise. Moreover, the Head of State’s sustained and intensive engagement reflects a President who remains composed, firmly committed to the path of sustainable peace for his country, and resolutely determined to implement far-reaching reforms aimed at transforming Cameroon and enhancing its integration into the new global order. In this context, the inaugural parliamentary session of the 2026 legislative year witnessed developments aligned with the President’s commitments to the gradual renewal, rejuvenation, and feminisation of national institutions. Indeed, these reforms seek to take into account the socio-anthropological realities of the national environment. In this regard, the Secretary General of the Central Committee once again pays a heartfelt tribute, as did the Party Delegations during their official funeral ceremonies, to Mr Marcel NIAT NJIFENDI and Mr CAVAYE YEGUIE DIBRIL, who, for decades, stood alongside the CPDM National President, President of the Republic, in the governance of our country with dedication, commitment, and loyalty. The Party’s debt of gratitude towards these illustrious departed comrades remains immeasurable. Furthermore, as part of the ongoing drive to modernise public institutions and adapt them to contemporary realities, the President of the Republic initiated a constitutional reform process which culminated in the creation of the office of Vice-President of the Republic. This development undoubtedly constitutes a visionary and timely initiative that has rekindled national confidence while reassuring partners and the business community alike regarding the predictability, continuity and stability of our country’s institutions, which are intended to endure beyond individuals and stand the test of time. Moreover, this reform, revolutionary in both its conception and scope, reflects the National President’s unwavering commitment to peace, stability and institutional consolidation. It has, therefore, been widely welcomed and embraced by public opinion. Indeed, it has emerged as a rallying call and a unifying banner under which Party members, supporters and all well-intentioned compatriots have reaffirmed their support for the momentum and wise vision championed by the Head of State and National President. The course has been set, the direction clearly charted, and the subsequent stages of this transformative process will inevitably follow. In view of the foregoing, and in keeping with our loyalty and steadfast adherence to the programme of the President of the Republic, it is incumbent upon us to extend our full and unwavering support to his action, without hesitation or equivocation. This responsibility is all the more pressing given the recent resurgence of disinformation campaigns and attempts to discredit our institutions across various communication platforms, including repeated attacks directed at the person of the Head of State. Furthermore, the Secretary-General of the Central Committee calls upon all stakeholders to exercise heightened vigilance and to remain steadfast in upholding the principles of individual and collective responsibility, which stand among the most emblematic expressions of Cameroon's exceptional national identity. He emphatically reiterates that the principles underpinning the functioning of the institutions of the Republic are inherently endogenous, rooted in Cameroon’s own realities and tailored to its specific context. He underscores that the destiny of the nation, as well as that of its people, is shaped within the national territory as bequeathed through the vicissitudes of history, in accordance with the democratic and freely expressed choices of our compatriots.
