Cameroon’s Embassy In Ethiopia: National Day Celebrated In Fanfare

The event was chaired by Ambassador Churchill Ewumbue Monono, Head of Diplomatic Mission.

Several personalities attended the event to celebrate the 54th edition of the National Day of Cameroon organised by the country’s Embassy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and chaired by Ambassador Churchill Ewumbue Monono who is the Head of the Diplomatic Mission and also Permanent Representative of Cameroon to the African Union. In his address at the event, the Ambassador used the opportunity to explain the significance of the National Unity Day and the theme for this year’s edition which is “National Unity: Backbone of our Defence System, Bedrock of Cameroon's Development.” During his remarks, he announced the year-long diamond celebrations of the opening of the Cameroon Embassy in Addis Ababa on 14 June 1966, which will be launched officially on 14 June 2026 with a sports walk. The Ambassador also expressed gratitude to the President of the African Union Commission for the recent appointment on 25 May 2026 of the young Cameroonian researcher, Dr. Yann Bedzigui Babena as his Chief of Staff, something which he notes is a diplomatic win for Cameroon. Meantime, messages from the representative of the African Union and the Ethiopian government were eloquent testimonies of not only the good relations with Cameroon, but also a determination to take them to a higher level. Ambassador Selma Malika Haddadi, of the African Union for instance, highlighted Cameroon’s hosting of five institutions of the Organisation and reaffirmed its commitment to continue to work closely with Cameroon to advance shared continental priorities.
