Cameroon-European Union: New Ambassador Takes Office

T he newly designated Ambas­ sador, Head of the European Union delegation in Came­ roon, Veronika Boskovic Pohar has presented the advanced copies of her letters of credence to the Mi­ nister Delegate to the Minister of External Relations in charge of Co­ operation with the Commonwealth, Felix Mbayu. This was during a maiden audience between the two persona­ lities that took place yesterday Sep­ tember 2, 2026 at the Ministry of External Relations. She takes over from Jean-Marc Châtaigner who came to the end of his diplomatic mission at the end of last August. In the course of preliminary ex­ changes, the Head of Mission outlined some of her priority areas of focus in Cameroon during her tenure and also expressed her determination to collaborate with Cameroonian autho­ rities to attain set objectives. Going by her professional background, she is a career diplomat, who prior to her appointment, served as Head of the European Union Delegation in Afghanistan, a position she occupied from September 1, 2024. She counts over twenty years of experience in security policies, multilateral affairs, and the European Union's foreign policy. Her studies and professional experience indicate proven expertise in crisis management, consular affairs, and defence coordination, with de­ monstrated leadership in managing teams and budgets as well as training diplomatic staff. Between September 2020 and August 2024, Veronika Boskovic Pohar served as Ambassa­ dor, Representative to the Political and Security Committee (Permanent Representation of Slovenia to the European Union).
