Local Taxation: Monitoring Units Acquire Performance Skills

A master class was to this effect organised by the National School of Local Administration on October 7, 2026 in Yaounde.
T he second phase of a series of five trainings organised by the National School of Local Administration (NASLA) for officials of local taxation monitoring units held on October 7, 2026 in Yaounde under the theme; “Managing a Local Taxation Mo nitoring Unit: Methods, Techniques, and Tools.” Participants are staff from the Councils and City Councils of the Centre and South Regions. They are being trained on nine main se quences, amongst them, the basics of local taxation, planning and organising the activities of a local taxation monitoring unit, tax ma nagement, local taxation dashboard, digitali sing tax monitoring, raising awareness about tax risk management, tax reporting, and de cision support. It was presided over by the General Manager of NASLA, Tanyitiku Bayee. His institution is in charge of training officials in decentralised institutions. He notes that the training takes place in a context where decentralisation is more than ever an essential lever for local development, improving local public services, and strengthening local go vernance. According to him, the stakes of the training are high; improving the quality of local tax management helps boost the mobilisation of resources for local authorities and, as a result, their ability to fund development ac tivities for the benefit of the people. “This training is the second step in a series of five Master Class trainings aimed at improving the skills of those in charge of local tax mo nitoring units. NASLA seeks to bring training closer to the participants, take into account the specific realities of different regions, and allow a large number of local leaders to benefit from this capacity building,” Tanyitiku Bayee said. Going by the NASLA boss, the success of the policy on decentralisation cannot be separated from the ability of decentralised local autho rities to mobilise, secure, and optimise their financial resources.
