Nigeria-South Africa Cooperation : Buhari Meets Ramaphosa

Nigeria President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday, October 2, 2019 began a three-day official visit to South Africa. The announcement which was made by the Nigerian State officials comes at a time when relations between Nigeria and South Africa have soured following a wave of xenophobic attacks in Johannesburg and other cities. Last month hundreds of Nigerians were evacuated from South Africa as a result of violence against foreigners that included the looting and burning of their shops. Since then, President Buhari has met South Africa's special envoy, Jeff Radebe, in Abuja during which the envoy conveyed an apology on behalf of President Cyril Ramaphosa.
After meeting with President Cyril Ramaphosa today during which both leaders are expected to discuss the welfare of their citizens, Mr Buhari will hold a town hall meeting with Nigerians still living in South Africa. The president and his delegation including Nigerian businessmen will also attend a business forum and preside over the South Africa-Nigeria BiNational Commission (BNC).
