Mali : Religious Leaders Call For Peaceful Transition

Leaders of all religious denominations in Mali on Monday, August 30, 2021 met in Bamako to make their position known with regards to the prevailing situation in the country since the coming to power of Assimi Goita, head of the National Transitional Council (NTC). During the meeting, fruitful proposals were put on the table for discussion with the degrading security situation dominating. At the end of a frankly debated meeting, a joined statement was released in which they called for “a national leap forward and a change in behavior and also urged the populations to mobilize for peace and stability”. To the men of God, the success of a smooth transition in the country is in the hands of all Malians reasons why, the leaders are urging all the vital forces of the nation, the Malian political class to be fully implicated in the consensual and inclusive management of the affairs of the country. 
The meeting of the religious leaders comes at a time when the political class is divided on the way forward for the success of the transition especially after a recent meeting between Prime Minister Choguel Maïga and some political stakeholders.
