12th African Vaccination Week: 30 Mothers Named Vaccination Ambassadors

A ceremony to encourage their efforts took place on May 4, 2022 in Yaounde.
30 women dubbed; “Role model mothers and parents” have received a certificate of encouragement from the Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI) for their efforts to ensure that their babies undergo effective vaccination from 0-15 months. This was during an award and commitment ceremony organised in the Centre Region by EPI to grace activities marking the 12th edition of the African Vaccination Week.
During the ceremony on May 4, 2022, the Sub-Director of Vaccination at the Ministry of Public Health, Dr Jeudi Debnet said it was an event for mothers to share vaccination experiences and testimonies of when a baby completes the vaccination calendar from 0 to 15 months.
He said these women will henceforth be vaccination ambassadors wherever they go. Hence, the vaccination ambassadors will have to preach the good news about a baby who is completely vaccinated from 0 to 15 mouths. According to Dr Jendi Debnet, using women as vaccination ambassadors is an ideal decision because; only women can talk to their mates about the importance of vaccination. They are expected to continue with the vaccination message especially to mothers within their communities and “Njangi homes” who stopped vaccinating their babies after 9 months.
