Kenya : William Ruto In Command

He was sworn in as President on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 during a grandiose ceremony.

Kenya’s fifth President since independence in 1963 has been sworn-in. President William Samoei Ruto took the oath of office during a grandiose ceremony at the Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani, in the presence of several Heads of State. Amid cheers from the excited crowd, President Ruto swore an oath of allegiance and another oath for the execution of the functions of the office. He also appended his signature to the corresponding documents under the watchful eyes of Chief Judge, Martha Koome and the Registrar, Anne Amadi.
The swearing-in and inauguration kicked off with the entry of President Uhuru Kenyatta aboard the Commander-in-Chief ceremonial vehicle, after which he inspected a full parade by the Kenya Defence Forces. The audience cheered as the 55-year-old Ruto and Kenyatta shook hands, sealing the transition of power and a new era in the political history of the country. As early as 5 a.m., the 60,000-capacity Kasarani Sports Center in Nairobi was already full, according to the police. Despite calls for people to stay home, many people still tried to force their way in. Scores of people were reportedly injured in the rush. “We had to treat some with minor injuries. Most of them were rushed to the main hospital in Nairobi,” a medic told Associated Press.
