Voters’ Registration : South West Marks 14,000

The region shot below set target of 24,000 but improved on last year's record of 11,000.

As Elections Cameroon (ELECAM) prepares to close its annual revision of electoral registers come August 31, 2023, the South West Region has recorded a remarkable increase in voters’ registration relative to last year’s 11.000 registered voters. Having set a target of enlisting 24,000 potential voters, the region has registered some 14,000 citizens. Using innovative strategies such as intensive online campaigns, door-to-door mobilisation and sensitisation, utilisation of youths and women’s groups’ influencers, and media campaigns amongst others, the South West Regional Delegate, Mewanu Divine Mukoto, says the bottom-up approach and intensive fieldwork has boosted voters’ registration in all 31 Council branches of the region.
As of August 25, 2023, the region had registered 13,858 voters from the 31 Council branches in the six Divisions. Currently, the Fako Division tops the list with 8,948 registered voters from her seven Council branches, Meme’s five Council branches have recorded 1,803 voters, while the Ndian Division has 1,256 registered members from her nine Councils. Manyu’s four councils tally 782 voters, and Kupe Muanenguba stands at 776 voters from the three Council branches. So far, Lebialem Division with 267 voters from three Council branches, has recorded the lowest registration rate.
