Bamenda Main Market Fire Incident : Over FCFA 75 Million To Assist Victims

A symbolic cheque was handed to committee members in charge of distribution on June 7, 2024 in Bamenda.
North West elite both at home and abroad, friends of the region have demonstrated a rare show of solidarity with victims Of February 22, 2024 Bamenda Main Market Fire Incident. The event to hand over the financial assistance took place at the North West Regional Assembly on June 7, 2024 in the presence of Senators, Members of the National Assembly, State officials, the clergy, the elite and some selected victims.
The over FCFA 75 Million Civic Emergency Assistance witnessed an additional FCFA 500,000 support from the PCC to be shared equally to all the 439 victims of the fire incident. About 292 Shops were completely destroyed according to Mezam SDO Simon Emile Mooh who personally conducted the census of all affected.
Speaking during the event in Bamenda, Minister Mbayu Felix explained that "when we heard the story of the fire incident, we saw through your pain." he said the Bamenda Main Market is an architectural jewel and remains the same even as it grows old. He said when the unfortunate incident occurred, they could not fold their arms while their brothers and sister languish in pain. As a result, they came up with a scheme to support the victims and
they received money ranging from FCFA 10, 000 to even FCFA 2, 000, 000 with others contributing even in dollars...
