Gabon : Military Junta Reopen Borders

Three days after seizing power and cancelling results of the December 26, 2023 presidential election, people can now travel by land, air and sea without restrictions.
Gabonese military junta has announced the reopening of borders three days after staging a coup that ousted President Ali Bongo. Speaking on Saturday, September 2, 2023 the spokesman for Gabon's Committee for the Transition and Restoration of Institutions (CTRI), Colonel Ulrich Manfoumbi Manfoumbi, said on state TV that they had “decided with immediate effect to reopen the land, sea and air borders to preserve respect for the rule of law, good relations with our neighbors and all the States of the world, and in order to promote the continuity of the State.” The announcement was highly welcomed by traders and civilians who have been stranded in Kye-Ossi ( in Cameroon), and other border towns since the decision was taken. On Wednesday a group of 12 Gabonese soldiers announced in a statement broadcast on the Gabon 24 television channel that the country's borders were closed until further notice. They also suspended the constitution, dissolved all States institutions and canceled the presidential election results.
The opening of frontiers comes on the heels of the designation of General Brice Oligui Nguema, head of the presidential guard as the country’s head of the Committee for the Transition and Restoration of Institutions (CTRI). Since Friday, September 2, 2023, the new Gabonese leader who will be sworn in today, September 4, 2023 by the Constitutional Council that has been temporarily reinstated, has been holding talks with the different stakeholders in the country to brainstorm...
