Team work and discipline account for success.

Following the recent ranking from the Ministry of Secondary Education, under the category of lay private secondary schools in the French Sub system of education, Collège La Conquête in Douala emerged first with a 91.87%. The key to this success lies in extra work, discipline, sacrifice and collaboration. A visit to the 25-year-old institution reveals a school where knowledge flows, right from the entrance an inscription reads “silence on travaille” roughly translated as “silence we are working” and this is found on every classroom door. One could hardly tell it was a school as all the students were in class busy with their academic work. The principal of Collège La Conquête, Aurélien  Ngomen Pamen, revealed that they have instituted a system where  teachers finished their plan of work well ahead of time and engaged in  revision  before the end of year and end-of-course examinations. He stressed that at the beginning on each academic year the school administration provides a programme and calendar of activity for each subject and every teacher has to sign and follow it strictly so that one month to the start of all examinations, both teachers and students must have completed their syllabuses and do intensive revision as well as catch up sessions for slow learners. 
To him, the weekly, monthly and quarterly evaluation of teachers is also a pointer. “At each evaluation we find out from the teachers those that are lagging behind so as to understand the problem. Once we identify the problem, we solve it immediately. We do not sleep on our problems”. He added that financial motivation for the teachers is also key.
