Yaounde African Judo Open : Cameroon Wins 16 Medals

Over 100 athletes took part in 2022 edition of the Yaounde African Judo Open that ended on Sunday November 22, 2022.

The premises of the Yaounde Multipurpose Sports Complex were exceptionally busy last weekend. The event was the 2022 edition of the Yaounde African Judo Open that ended on Sunday November 2022. Organised by the Cameroon Judo Federation in collaboration with the African judo Union, the competition brought together 152 athletes from 21 countries in Africa and Europe. Serbia was the only country from Europe. The competition unfolded in the senior, junior and cadet categories. It was an opportunity for the young judokas to showcase their talents to the world. 
At the end of the competition, Angola finished on the top seat with nine medals; four gold, one silver and four bronze. They were followed by Senegal with five medals; three gold one bronze and South Africa; two gold, one silver and two bronze. Cameroon finished on the eighth spot with 16 medals; five silver and 11 bronze medals. Out of the 21 countries that participated, 14 won medals. In the cadet category, Cameroon finished first out of six countries with 15 medals; four gold, five silver and six bronze. Angola was second with two gold medals and Djibouti and Niger were third with one gold medal each. All the six nations in in that category won at least a medal.
